Stop Living In The Future

If I could reclaim all of the time I have spent worrying about what the future held for me, I could accumulate a large amount of extra hours. Unfortunately this isn’t reality, there is no rewind or restart button. The things we have done and the time we have spent has passed and we are here, now.

This chapter may sound like i’m emphasising that you need to take no notice of the future but that by all means is not what i’m saying here.

I believe it’s very, VERY. good to have goals and aspirations for your life, because thats kind of what we live for right? that if we didn’t have something to work towards I am sure we would see a decline in motivation and an incline in the ever so boring feeling of ‘meh’.

Let’s touch on the ‘existential crisis type worry’ though. This is the form of worry that we really don’t need to engulf ourselves with, the worrying about what could possibly happen, about what your day will look like a year from now. I can almost guarantee you, unless you have some sort of power you’re not telling us about. That you could not have predicted the day you have had today, a year in the past. I know I wouldn’t have been able to, time passes, events happen, feelings change and life moves on.

Funnily enough I was looking for some where to write this down on paper before typing it up and came across an old notebook with quite obviously old journal entries, one was dated a year ago but in 3 days time. Pretty good timing to be found if I may add. I quite frankly read it, smiled and went on to cringe. Life was different then and I was rambling on about a situation that I honestly, probably haven’t thought about since that day. At the time this was the ever so dramatic event in my life, the feelings i had were feelings that I couldn’t imagine feeling now towards that situation, and life has moved on. That doesn’t make that time in my life any less important to my journey but nonetheless I am glad I am no longer there.

Time is a strange concept, but time is the most valuable thing we have and this is why it is so increasingly important that you do not waste yours.

My family always remind me that I think too much, I analyse things too much and really, I do. In spite of this fact, I tend to not dwell too much on whats to come, I simply like to know a lot, about a lot. This is just what interests me, learning is a key aspect of becoming the very best version of you. Over the years I have learnt that the act of worrying about the future leads to nowhere but back to where I already was, just with less tasks on my to do list checked off.

Yes, you should think about your future, be a dreamer, have ambition, get excited, write down your short, medium and long term goals so that you can have this helping hand guiding you to your desired path. But never expect everything to always and forever go your way. When they don’t, don’t immediately look for a pause button on your life so you can quickly figure out what to do to next. There is no right solution or right way to do something, just your way, and hopefully that feels right.

The future is non existent yet you are allowing it to exist in your mind and take over your day to day. Stop for a second, look around. Think about the things which make you happy right now, do more of those things and be grateful while doing them.

Right here is all you’ve got, trust that the universe has your back on this one, it’s counting on you to not give up on yourself so it can peacefully deliver what is yours…to you.

“The future depends on what you do today, make today count”

Sending Love,

K.
